1971年中華民國政府被迫宣佈退出聯合國，此後各國陸續解除邦交關係。1979年1月1日，中華民國政府與美國斷交，外交處境造成相當衝擊。

1980年代，隨著產業從農業發展到輕重工業、國民教育普及。

1980年代，台灣名列亞洲四小龍，股市指數曾高達萬點，政府成立新竹科學工業園區，大力鼓勵內外廠商投資積體電路、電腦等高科技產業，台灣中小企業也被電子產業的蓬勃發展所影響，此時臺灣個人電腦主機板產量因此位居世界第一，臺灣達到新興工業國家（NIEs）水平。

以上是我電腦課對於台灣1970-1980年代所發生的歷史所找到維基百科的資料，但是我因為英文只學得很基礎所以不知道要如何翻出有水準的英文。
